Flathead Valley Sod Farm is the sod farm right off of Highway 206. The address is 1180 Austin Crossroad Columbia Falls, MT. It is about 2.5 miles north of Woody's Country Store.
To measure your yard take the length of the yard and multiple it by the width of your yard. Try to measure square rectangle areas.
You want your final grade to be an inch below any sidewalk or edging with your sprinkler heads set an inch above the final grade. The soil should be compacted with the top half inch being loose so roots can penetrate easily.
Once the sod is laid, water the sod to the point that you have 1.5 inches of moisture within the soil of the sod. Once that moisture content is established, you will need to maintain that moisture content for the next 2 weeks.
After two weeks of adequate watering the roots will begin to establish and penetrate the soil.
Once the sod is established, the sod should be watered 2-3 times daily, weather dependent.
We recommend fertilizing your lawn 3-4 times a year. Read and print the sod maintenance page to refer to at your convenience.
It is best to install the sod immediately. In the spring and fall you have about 24-48 hours to get the sod on the ground. However, the summer months the sod should be laid down the day of delivery for best results.
Les, the owner of Flathead Valley sod has over 25 years of sod experience. He is not only a friendly face but his knowledge and expertise of the sod industry will help you achieve the best yard in the neighborhood.
It is best to call Les (406-253-9689) to help you determine what is the best fit for your yard. Generally big rolls are best for wide open spaces.
A 1/2 ton truck can haul 400 square feet of sod.
